Saturday

oh, happy day.

ok, so when i booked my flight from germany to london, stansted, they informed me that there is a strike scheduled for that day, consequently only carry-on luggage will be allowed. ugh. so this morning ridley and i had a very interesting time sitting on, jumping on, and kicking my sleeping bag, while trying to bind it with a webbing strap. our goal was to get everything i've lived on for the last month to fit IN my one backpack (which hopefully is small enough to count as carry-on). we finally achieved our goal (after much grunting and giggling...the poor neighbors will probably be gossiping for months) and came to town to do internet. AT WHICH TIME WE LEARNED THAT THE BLOODY STRIKE HAS BEEN CANCELED!!!

not relevant to this posting, but I thought you'd appreciate it. (I don't know many that would)

When I ask you to listen to me and you start giving advice, you have not done what I asked.
When I ask you to listen to me and you begin to tell me why I shouldn't feel that way, you are trampling on my feelings.
When I ask you to listen to me and you feel you have to do something to solve my problems, you have failed me, strange as that may seem.
Listen! All I asked, was that you listen. Not talk or do-just hear me.
Advice is cheap: 50 cents will get you both Dear Abby and Billy Graham in the same paper.
And I can do for myself; I'm not helpless. Maybe discouraged and faltering, but not helpless.
When you do domething for me that I can and need to do for myself, you contribute to my fear and weakness.
But whan you accept as a simple fact that I do feel what I feel, no matter how irrational, then I quit tring to convince you and can get about the business of this irrational feeling.
And when that's clear, that answers are obvious and I don't need advice.
Irrational feelings make sense when we understand what's behind them.
Perhaps that's why prayer works, sometimes, for some people-because God is mute, and doesn't give you advice or try to fix things, God just listens and lets you work it out for yourself.
So, please listen and just hear me, and, if you want to talk, wait a minute for your turn, and I'll listen to you.

I read this and liked it and thought of you, so hear it is. (I wish those that I truly need to hear this could understand it too)

PS-love reading about your travels, hope you are having fun in your last few days there!
