Day One or something

i have put the photography business on hold, don is continuing his computer business from fill-in-the-blank internet connection, and we have packed our bags again. this is our first international travel together, but despite being previously very independent travellers, we have "got on" alright so far. we are currently in northern england visiting a friend, and are looking at the various creative ways to get to budapest, aka home sweet home. among the options are: ferry to ireland, then flight to germany, then train to budapest? or flight to amsterdam, train to prague, then bus to hungary? or should we include the hydrofoil on the danube from bratislava to vienna to budapest? we plan to work with WWOOF (World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms) once in hungary. we have been in contact with an english couple who now lives on a farm near Pecs, and they have offered us our own house until the first week of february. we are also considering heading into bulgaria or romania. our portland priest recommends croatia. so the options are many, and the adventures have just begun. and don is under strict orders from auntie trish to make sure that i have more than one loaf of bread per week to eat on this europe trip, so everything is looking up!

we got here (near bradford/ leeds) last night, and went almost directly to bed. we awoke just as it was getting light (about 7-8am), then accidentally fell back to sleep until it was just starting to get dark (4pm). despite being in bed for 18 of our 24 hours here, we've had thai food, indian food, many cups of tea, and two kinds of local beer in a "non-smoking" pub. the english definition of non-smoking is this: you can smoke anywhere in the place except in the several seats that are actually at the bar. really effective. the sign even gave all kinds of arguments about why this was a good idea, siting health reasons and etc.
